I thought today I’d talk about the Friday Recommendations emails that go out. It occurred to me that some of you might feel like you shouldn’t share whatever you’ve written that given week, especially if you’ve already been featured. You might be thinking, “I’m probably not going to be chosen so why bother.” And to that I say, bother, please do!
The way I look at the weekly Recommendations posts is two-fold:
It’s a way for me to randomly select stories to feature in the Weekly and Monthly TiF issues.
It’s a way for YOU to be seen by new subscribers/readers who come to TiF specifically looking for stuff to read!
It’s the second point I want to drive home because I think many of you might not have considered it. But Recommendation posts are looked at weeks after they’ve passed. Once a newcomer discovers TiF they tend to get curious and they might look back at previous weeks of featured writers/stories. But they will also look back at the comments of the Recommendation backlog because they will always provide more options to choose from than the weekly posts. Which is why I always link back to the Recommendation post for readers to get even more stories to choose from.
If your story isn’t there, how can you expect to continue to be discovered?
Being featured and getting a medallion is great and I know everyone who’s gotten one (or more than one) has been ever so grateful for it. But there’s much more to TiF and it’s end goal than just handing out medallions. It’s to get all of the fiction community noticed and recognized and remembered week-over-week.
Lately, these Recommendation posts have received dozens of stories to choose from! That is amazing but I know for a fact that hundreds of you are working tirelessly and regularly (possibly even weekly?) so there’s no reason not to take a few minutes out of your busy schedule to share your work. I guarantee you’ll get more subscribers leaving one comment every Friday than you would Tweeting every single day for a lifetime.

Chuffed to bits with an Honourable Mention! Thanks so much for all the encouragement, Erica.
Thank you for mentioning Judy’s Horses. I’m honored and delighted to see the collaboration sited here in your lovely recommendations. Your writing is very much appreciated. Thank you kindly.
