:taps the mic: Is this thing on?
Great! Okay. I hope you all can hear me alright. Today we embark on a brand new era of Top in Fiction. An era that, as far as I’m concerned, is like a clean slate. Last year was a 6-month trial run that I would say was a resounding success. It was way more than I could’ve imagined and opened so many doors of ideas for me that I wish I could tell you all about right now, but why spoil the suspense. You’ll just have to stick around week-to-week as I let some hints drop like boulders all around you.
Now, I do mean it when I say that 2025 is a clean slate. I decided that each year will be a clean slate. What exactly do I mean by that? Well, as many of you may know or assume, I keep meticulous records of each and every single person that is featured or an honorable mention. This allows me to make sure everyone who is new and in need of the most support and encouragement will get it. So, with that, everyone will be treated as if they are being featured for the first time regardless of how many times you may have been featured last year. I’ve got a fresh tab for 2025 open and I’m ready to go!
TiF Weekly, Live!
Our first ever live show just happened. I didn’t expect a large turn out but as usual, this community always follows through and we had over 30 by the time I said by farewell!
If you didn’t know, this is the new format moving forward. I’ll read out loud the names of the 20 featured stories prior to sending out this email. I don’t know about you, but the idea of getting to hear my the name of my work being read excites me. I’m hoping to introduce inviting those who are featured to come on and read their work Live or give me permission for someone else to read their work Live in the future. More on how in the coming weeks.
There were TWO important pieces of news I shared during the Live! as well:
The Great TiF Rebrand!
I really want to give Top in Fiction a facelift. I’ve already reached out to someone who is already as excited as I am to help this community look and feel as professional and serious-minded as it already is on the inside. The cost is substantial, but I know if enough of us pull together we can make this dream of making TiF sophisticated and something people beyond our little community will come to know and love and most importantly, trust. Especially, considering all the plans I have for it moving forward. Any donations that you can make at this time would help in putting forth a downpayment to getting this process started. I promise to share mock-ups and anything else I can along the way to the finish line too!
TiF Presents…
Lastly, as you know Top in Fiction has had what I’ve been calling “TiF Disruptions.” These are moments of unexpected community collaboration and TiF believes in community more than anything. And in the spirit of community I’d like to introduce TiF Presents… A TiF Valentine!
Not all Valentine’s are hearts and flowers though some can be. Whether it be a card, a poem, a letter,
or a massacre, let’s give each other a valentine this February. One we’ll never forget…If you’d like to participate in submitting something for this Valentine’s Day on February 14th, leave an “I’m In” comment on this post. If I get enough of an interest I’ll share more details on just how you can share a Valentine in next week’s Weekly, Live!
