TiF Around Town…
A Note passed around recently had me re-evaluating my thought process behind TiF Press. Let me try to explain…
When I first came up with the idea of TiF Press my intentions were to create a space where actual work from the fiction community could be displayed in various forms that go beyond what Substack could ever hope to create for us, and to take these storytellers to a wider audience. Substack is great but it is a garden wall and my hope was that TiF Press could help those who are less inclined to believe they can (or should) take their work to the next level, to do just that. By fostering a place of community, building confidence, and creating connections in other places.
Granted, my idea is probably not a new one. I’ve heard plenty make such grandiose statements and then never follow through, crumble under the pressure, or feel forced to become the very thing they started out against in order to survive.
What fate will befall TiF Press? I do not know. I won’t make promises I can’t keep but I can promise a commitment from me for at least the next 5 years to see if this thing can become what I envision. It’s a long shot and chances are it will crumble under the pressure. But we’ll have a hell of a ride along the way!
That is why I mention Dylan’s Note. I agree 100% with it. Which is why the future plans for TiF Press specifically will now be focused on TWO major avenues of interest:
Anthologies. We will push forward with releasing at least 2 anthologies annually that will come from the events hosted by TiF Press. It will be based on a royalty split that will, as always, favor the writers in each anthology.
Reprints. Because we are not a company flush with capital but still want a way to promote and support storytellers however we can, we will accept reprints of fiction. There are some rules and caveats to this. Firstly, that the story originate on your publication (ie. Substack). We will not accept stories that may appear in another publication or anthology. These reprints will link back to your work and will release directly on the TiF Press website under our “Fiction” umbrella.
The ultimate goal and mission for Top in Fiction and TiF Press is to support and promote the fiction of others in any way that is good for the writer of the work but will ultimately lead to paying for that work as well.
With ALL that said, please look for the official WINDOW OF SUBMISSIONS for Reprints on August 1st.
Now, onto some news worth noting:
