TiF Around Town…
This week was bananas (and Bananzas, but that’s in a different post I’m working on over on my main publication,
). Anyway, because I had my son’s 4yr old birthday party to plan on two separate days: His actual day at school and then two days later at our house complete with water slide, 16 adults and 4 kids. Suffice it to say, I knew I would (and should) take much needed breaks where I could. It just so happened that the amazing had already asked me earlier in the week if she could step in and assist in making selections on a week of my choosing! Well, this week was needed. And so, I say to you, reader of words, if you should ever want to step in my shoes for a weekend, I’m likely to take you up on that offer! Just slip into my DMs and ask! With that said, this week the choices were in the capable hands of Bri, ya’ll!But, just because I took 5 days doesn’t mean I spent it resting. Heaven forbid! No, instead I was plotting and scheming. And guess what emerged out of these 5 days of respite? I brand new way to showcase and share serials! I’ve been letting this simmer for a while now, waiting for inspiration to spark and an idea to take shape. First, I want to say that this idea is only for currently active serials. I’m still working on a system for those great works that are completed.
Here’s what I propose doing for all of the serials that are active and chugging along on a regularly scheduled basis:
Form time! A brand new form will be made available. This will be a ONE TIME FILLER OUTER form. Meaning, if you have the following bits of information, you’ll need to fill out this form just once:
Serial Title
Image Card
Index Page
New Page to visit! I’m moving serials in its entirety over to TiF Press. This change will leave a bit more space for the other categories (more on this later) to be featured each week.
The Wall of Serials! On the TiF Press website will be a page dedicated to active serials through the use of image cards that will flip when hovered over to reveal information about your serial as well as a button that will take you to the Index Page of the serial. I’ll be sharing some screenshots for how the page will look in the Monthly Recap #7 issue on August 6th.
Now, more on this Wall of Serials page and how this will be incorporated on a weekly basis. At the very top of the page will be how the weekly issues will get incorporated. Up to 5 serials that are active will be featured with a link to their latest chapter/episode. This will be done on a first come first serve basis. As of right now, we get an average of 4 - 9 different serials recommended every weekend. Therefore, we’ll take whoever the first 5 are and list them. If you want one of those slots and you write a serial, make sure you share your latest chapter/episode when the form opens on Fridays. If we have 8 weeks in a row with more than 10 different serials suggested I will increase the number that appears on the Wall of Serials.
Under the most recent list of chapters/episodes will be “The Wall” which will be those image cards I keep talking about. Some suggestions for the image cards, in case you haven’t considered creating an image to represent your serial, is to use Unsplash (or comparable website) to find an image that best represents your serial. Also, make sure the title of your serial is also on the image as well. More on this to come in the Monthly Recap #7 email.
In the meantime, I’ll be reaching out to specific serials I know are happening now to test the new page.
I hope this move will help to shine a light on serials in a better way. Because of this change, starting in September we’ll no longer include serials in the Weekly emails as we have in the past. I appreciate your patience.
Now, onto some news worth noting:
All events listed below can also be found on our Calendar of Events page.
TiF On Serials - Friday August 8th at 2pm EST - Due to technical difficulties we were unable to have this discussion on the previously scheduled date. This is the NEW date. And I know I speak for
, , and when I say we all hope to see you there!TiF Voices - Wednesday, July 30th CANCELED - If you had this on your calendar, we’ve had to cancel it again. I’m working out a way to make this something that more people actively want to participate in. And it just hasn’t been coming together as I’d hoped since the first and only time we did it.
Inanimate Objects [A TiF Disruption Event] - Monday, September 15th to Wednesday, October 15th - The next TiF Press writing event is happening and if you see what’s happening with the Eye See You event, then you’ll want to get in on this one! As per usual you can opt to enter the contest or just write a story to participate in the event which is happening on Friday, October 31st for Halloween. More information such as word count length, theme, and submissions link as well as judges and sponsors will be announced on September 15th!
